Let Us Participate

What comes to your mind when we ask, “What
is the most important teachings of Seicho-No-Ie?”
Some people
might think of the basic teachings of Seicho-No-Ie, such as: “Only the
God-Created Perfect World Exists;” “All phenomena are only the manifestation of
the mind;” and “All religions emanate from one universal God.” Those basic
teachings come naturally to mind.
However,
when we make it simple, Seicho-No-Ie teaches that “We are all children of God”
and essentially we are perfect and harmonious. Since Man is a child of God and
essentially perfect and harmonious, we make an effort to manifest its
perfection (True Image) to this world (Phenomenal World). Since Man is a child
of God, we strive to achieve the World of Grand Harmony of Nature and Human
being on this earth. Since Man is a child of God, we try to cope with global
environmental issues and reduce meat consumption by reconciling with the whole
universe.
In
Seicho-No-Ie, in order to attain awareness as child of God, we are encouraging
our members to participate in various activities and practice three important
religious practices:
1. Practice
of Shinsokan Meditation
2. Recitation
of the Holy Sutras and reading of other Seicho-No-Ie books, and
3. Practice
of deeds of love.
However, the
most effective way to attain that awareness in a short period of time is to
participate in one of the Spiritual Training Seminars.
Rev. Seicho
Taniguchi, wrote about how important it is to participate in the spiritual
training seminars in “Oh, My Happy Home!” in Chapter 11, “Blessings of the
Spiritual Training Seminar,” as follows:
Blessings of
the Spiritual Training Seminar
One Cause
The troubles
that afflict mankind come in many different forms, but the cause is always one
and the same. If we know precisely what that one cause is, and eliminated it,
everything around us would be fine.
Then what is this “one sole cause?” It is “failing to remember
that we are the perfect children of God.” Even though we really are wonderful
being, we sometimes do not think so. From this come various troubles, agonies,
poverty, and other misfortunes.
If only we realize that “we are children of God,” everything would
be fine. But to do so is not easy. Although we understand it intellectually, we
often do not feel it in the depth of our heart. Still, since every one of us is
a wonderful “child of God” already, whether we are aware of it or not, we
should not give up our attempt to achieve this profound awareness. All we have
to do is to find a way of attain it.
Then, what is the way to reach this deep realization that we are
children of God? I think that one of the best way is to attend a school where
we can get the appropriate guidance and training. If we wants to learn about
cooking or dressmaking, the fastest and easiest way would be to go to a cooking
or dressmaking school, wouldn’t it? Of course, it would be possible for us to
learn by ourselves, but, in many cases, it would require more time and effort.
To attend a Spiritual Training Seminar is one of the best ways to
become aware that “we are children of God.” By doing so we are able to attain
this deep awareness much more easily and quickly than if we were to make the
attempt on our own.
(”Oh My Happy
Home”pp125-126)
When I first participated in the Spiritual
Training Seminar for High School Students at the age of 15, I was very moved
throughout the Seminar.
Needless to say, I clearly remember that I
was moved by the Truth that “Man is a Child of God.” I was also moved by
learning the importance of the “Power of the Word” and the importance of
“Having a Dream.” Further, I learned the importance of being grateful to our
parents.
The
experience of participating in this Spiritual Training Seminar caused a big
change in my outlook on life. I gradually started to think that I wanted to
devote my life to this Seicho-No-Ie movement.
Later, I
started working for a company, but the good impression that I got from
participating in the first Spiritual Training Seminar continued while I was
active in the Youth and Young Adult Association of Seicho-No-Ie.
Eighteen
years after the first Spiritual Training Seminar, I joined the Seicho-No-Ie
International Headquarters and two years ago I moved to Canada. This is my own
experience, but participating in the Spiritual Training Seminar gives us the
opportunity to change our outlook on life and gives us great salvation.
From
September 12 to 14, the 60th International Spiritual Training Seminar
will be held in Surrey in Greater Vancouver. Let us deepen our awareness as a
child of God by participating in it and promoting it to many people.
We will also
have the Truth Realization Seminar and the Leaders Seminar, in both Vancouver
and Toronto, which will be led by a minister dispatched from International
Headquarters. In Vancouver, we will have those seminars from October 19 to 20
and In Toronto they will be from November 1 to 2. Let us promote these
activities. By participating in those activities will come golden opportunities
to deepen our awareness as children of God.
And in the
future, by organizing our own Spiritual Training Seminar regularly in Canada,
let us hold the flame of the Truth high.
Thank you
very much.
